Union History1890 The first trade union in the paper business was started by the workers at the Fiskeby Mill and the Holmen Mill. The chairman was from Fiskeby. 1891 The union was closed down at the end of the year. At that time most of the Fiskeby workers had already left the union. A new trade union was formed on August the 19th, this time only by workers from Holmen. A month later a new, separate, union was formed at Fiskeby. 1896 On the 12th of April the Fiskeby union joined the Main board of trade unions. This was a kind of predecessor to LO, the national workers union of Sweden. In July the Fiskeby union joined the Social Democratic Party. In April the Fiskeby union joined the Unskilled and Factory workers union of Sweden. A third union was formed at Fiskeby on the 31st of January as a local, Nr 84, of the Unskilled and Factory Workers Union. On the 1st of April it was transformed into section Nr 5 of the Unskilled and Facto- ry Workers Union. An organization for building an assembly hall at Fiskeby was founded. Two building sites were bought, close to present Eneby Centrum. The organization was working until 1925. The assembly hall was, how- ever, never built. The trade union becomes a local, Nr 8, of the Unskilled and Factory Workers Union. 1916 On the 1st of January the union joins the Labour Union of Norrköping. (There we remained until 1986) The Swedish Paper Industry Workers Union was formed on 21-22 of June in Gävle, where the first head office also was sited. On the 1st of November the Fiskeby union joins the Swedish Paper Industry Workers Union as local 51.
